The HQ OST Compilation for Sonic Origins has like every version of these games' OST under the sun to choose from, you could make the game sound like an AtGames console or the bad PC midi if you wanted to. And I love the big band feel of Casino Night. Like, I totally dig Flying Battery and Sky Sanctuary, but I don't find something like Death Egg as catchy as Launch Base/Metropolis, or Mushroom Hill as memorable as Green/Emerald or Angel Island, you know? Like find me something as groovy as Mystic Cave! It's so lovely. There is good music in S&K but I always thought it was below 1 - 3 in terms of quality and catchiness. The music for parts of Sonic 3 just sounds so much worse than what's around it. I think if they at least could have remixed better music in Sonic 3, it'd be easier to put this collection higher. But it's hard to deny many improvements here are wonderful with the Story mode stitching everything together, the lovely new animated scenes to begin and end the games, and Hidden Palace is SUCH a treat in Sonic 2 instead of the spiked pit from which you can't escape. I'd still say Mega Collection is still the best due to quantity of games (Comix Zone, Ristar, Flicky), everything being on one disc, the original music in place, etc. I still am not 100% why those specific songs were the ones affected - is it because you can hear MJ in a few of them and because Ice Cap sounds like one of his songs? And why wasn't this a problem with the Sonic Mega Collection? Why was Knuckles' original theme affected? Or did MJ only work on a few songs and those were the ones? God though, the music in the second half of 3 is so bad. Going to go through 3/K with Knuckles, and then I'll probably be experimenting with other characters for the other games! Maybe use some Amy/Knuckles in 1. Sonic CD is the only game I didn't get the true ending for. I tell you, it's much easier being able to use coins to try again, especially since I have 200+ coins.
